The Bayelsa state government had confirmed the death of two residents who died as a result of a deadly cult clash in yenagaoa, Bayelsa state.
According to Reports, the incident occurred on Monday evening at Erepa road and Agudama-Epie in Yenagoa the State capital. It was gathered that there were sporadic shootings from gunmen suspected to be rival cult group in the area which resulted to the unfortunate death of two citizens and few others sustaining varying degrees of injuries at Erepa.
Mr. Ayiba Duba, the state Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, noted that the Government is working in hand with security agencies to arrest and prosecute the hoodlums behind the crime. The commissioner said this in a statement while speaking with News Agency Nigeria (NAN) adding that the state government would remain committed to protecting the people’s lives and property.
The commissioner assured that the state government would foot the medical bills of residents who sustained injuries during the shootings. He further stated that the government is committed to doing everything within its powers to avert a reoccurrence of such tragic incidents.
Duba urged citizens to go about their lawful activities as order has been restored in the area. He enjoined residents to cooperate with authorities in efforts at bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The commissioner further stated that, the incident had no links with a reported violent machete attack at Otuoke in Ogbia LGA.
“Preliminary investigation by the security agencies suggests that the shooting is cult related and that there is clearly no nexus between the runaway shootings at Agudama-Epie and Erepa, and the Otuoke incidence.
“Government condoles with the families of those who are affected by the unfortunate development and has taken over the medical bills of the injured”, he said.
