A gang of people said to be cultists have laid siege on Ezioha Okporo Community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, terminating human lives and destroying property.
The cultists on Sunday, August 15 destroyed property in the community including solar street lights, which were provided by a notable indigene of the community.
A teacher who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the situation in the community is very dicey at the moment.
He said; “Last night (Sunday), the cultists destroyed all the solar street lights in the village. The solar lights were installed by an illustrious son of the village.
“I counted over 40 of the street lights. I shed tears. Miscreants armed with AK47 are dispensing terror in the village.”
The teacher further revealed that the hoodlums demanded the sum of N500,000 from a family in the community before the family would be allowed to carry out the funeral ceremony of its deceased member.
The teacher added that the malefactors also specialize in decapitating people and parading the bodiless heads of their victims like trophies at the market square.
He added; “They stormed a family planning the funeral ceremony of its deceased member and demanded N500,000 to allow the family proceed with the burial ceremony.
“They have destroyed people’s houses. This group has decapitated some people in the village. When they kill, they place the heads at the market square
Our correspondent gathered that cultists have also cabled notices to some illustrious indigenes of the village, demanding that they part with huge sums of money if they wish to remain alive.
According to an indigene of the community; “Everybody is now on the run. Ezioha Okporo in Orlu LGA, is now where evil prowls in broad daylight. It’s a doomsday scenario. Men are evacuating their aged parents.”
When contacted, the spokesman of the police in the state, CSP Michael Abatam said he was yet to receive any briefing on the matter.
However, a senior police officer confided in our correspondent that the police would soon deploy their tactical teams to area.
