A day old new born baby was discovered pinned on a barbed wire fence of an abandoned building in Minna, the capital of Niger State.
Residents of Dutsen Kura, a Hausa hamlet in the state, discovered the child’s blood-splattered body.
Ahmad Tukura, the District Head of Dutsen Kura Hausa, confirmed the occurrence, saying that only a callous person could have committed such a deed. He stated that attempts were being made to apprehend the perpetrator.
“Why couldn’t the mother simply lay the baby down? Someone would have picked her up and looked after her, or she may have been placed in an orphanage. It is unacceptably cruel to kill an innocent child in this manner.” According to Tukura.
There are many stories of young mothers or teenage girls who abandoned their new born babies on the street, in the bush and some were even thrown inside a lake or rivers.
