The argument of zoning has been laid to rest by His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Sen. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa who said PDP stakeholders never gathered to agree on zoning of the Governorship ticket. Nothing is truer than the position of the Governor which is in tandem with our argument.
This was contained in a press release signed by Ambassador Augustine Okporu, Director General Delta Ijaw 2023 Governorship Advocacy Group and Ijaw Youth Council Western Zone chairmanship aspirant.
According to him, “We expect our brothers from the Delta Central Senatorial District to see the clear handwriting on the board. Our checkered history from 1999 to date has shown that the Governorship seat both in the PDP or in other political parties has always been a subject of contest by all interested aspirants. There is nothing like zoning which suggest that a particular Senatorial District has an exclusive right to contest the office.”
He stated that, Gov. Okowa has cleared the air on the so-called Senatorial District zoning argument, we expect Delta Central PDP executive committees to key into the Governor’s sagacious advice. No amount of political jamboree will resurrect that dead zoning argument.
He further said that, We take strong exception to the position taken by the Delta Central PDP executive committees on the issue of zoning. The earlier they realized that the Governorship ticket is opened for all intending contestants in the State the better for them. When the Urhobos contested the Governorship ticket against Uduaghan and Okowa both in 2007 and 2015 then there was no zoning? Is it now they realized that there ought to be zoning amongst the three Senatorial Districts?
Amb. Okporu opined that, “All the PDP executive members who attended that charade called Delta Central PDP executive committees are only playing to the gallery. They are the greatest political jokers of the century. Our simple advice is that the zoning crusaders in Urhobo land should immediately withdraw from that warped and unpopular agenda. Only God’s anointed candidate and not a product of zoning will win the Party ticket come 2023”.
“Those who have political ambitions should begin to do the normal consultations. As an executive committee members of the PDP, we expect the Delta Central PDP executive committees to take a neutral position”.
He said, “the Ijaw nation are highly disappointed by the partisan involvement of the PDP executive members from the Central. We are not surprised anyway, even Kingsley Esiso, the State PDP Chairman has displayed his biased partiality on this zoning drama”.
He added that, their consolation is the political sagacity displayed by the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. “We therefore earnestly appeal to the Delta Central PDP stakeholders to begin to withdraw their minds from the so-called zoning arrangements. God willing, the next governor of Delta State will emerge not probably from a product of zoning.”
