A woman, simply identified as Blessing Emmanuel, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her husband to death in Oharo town, Ughelli.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, in a statement, noted that the murder case was reported early this week.
According to him, “On 5/4/2021 at about 13.13hrs, one Chief Hon. Macpherson Igbedi ‘m’ of No. 4, Akanaweh Street, Off Ekredjebor Road, Ughelli reported that on the 4/4/2021 at about 23.45hrs, at Ohoro town one Blessing Emmanuel ‘f’ age 30 yrs stabbed her husband, one Jonathan Otomi Umamode aged 43yrs, with knife, to death…”
The deceased, Mr. Jonathan Utomi, 43, was accused by his wife of not taking care of his children and the family.
It was gathered that trouble started when the deceased, Utomi, had an argument with his wife. It was learnt that the suspect publicly accused him of not performing his duties as the head of the family.
The argument became heightened when he requested that the wife should go home with him, which the wife bluntly refused.
Angered by the refusal, the slain husband destroyed her business as he poured kerosene on the fried chicken she was selling and reportedly set them ablaze. In anger, she picked a knife and stabbed him to death.
DSP Edafe said the woman claimed she had been taking care of herself and her kids by selling fried chicken.
He added that she was arrested following the report. According to him,
“The suspect, who was later arrested, is a mother of seven and pregnant with her eighth child.
“She confessed to the crime and said she angrily stabbed her husband who she claimed did not take care of her and the children.
Concluding, the PPRO said the divisional police officer immediately mobilised detectives to the scene, and removed the corpse, which has since been deposited at the Central Hospital for autopsy.
