The Rivers State Police Command has called for an audience with the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria Rivers Chapter led by Comr. Bani Nwisabari Samuel on ways of ensuring that Nigeria’s Democracy day is celebrated freely in the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni who moderated the interface said the call was necessitated by the proactive approach of the police to ensure effective policing before, during and after the June 12 celebration which is now Nigeria’s Democracy day.
Speaking at the meeting, Comr. Bani Nwisabari Samuel said due to the volatile security state of the nation, youths in Rivers State has no major plan for any elaborate celebration or protest. He called on Rivers youths to go about their lawful businesses without fear or molestation of any sort.
“As a result of the volatile state of the nation and Rivers State currently, the NYCN in Rivers State have no plans to gather for protest or celebration of any kind. I want to encourage youths to go about their lawful businesses and be watchful in their respective areas so as to quickly arrest any security threat to the state and report to the police”, he stated.
Bani also drew the attention of the Police to the killing of a commercial bus driver around location junction on Tuesday June 8 2021 appealing for speedy and thorough dispensation of justice.
The Chairman who doubles as the Public Relations Officer of the NYCN Forum of State Chairmen, through his Senior Special Adviser on media, Ana Hycienth called on the police to avail security coverage for Nigerians generally known for fun seeking so that they can celebrate freely at strategic fun seeking points within the state such as the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park and other places.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday in his response promised to deploy men of the Nigerian Police Force to all fun seeking centres, major roads and entrances leading into and out of the state.
On the killing of a bus driver by an officer of the Nigerian Safety and Civil Defence Corps, the Commissioner of Police assured the youths and indeed all Rivers people of the Command’s efforts to ensure justice is speedily dispensed as the happy trigger NSCDC officer has been apprehended by the Police.
