The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has charged President Muhammadu Buhari and heads of other tiers of government in Nigeria to immediately design a people-oriented and workable economic road map for the country.
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, in a Sallah message, jointly signed by its President, Quadri Olaleye and Secretary General, Musa Lawal Ozigi, respectively, condemned what it described as “the unbridled funding of infrastructure with foreign loans”.
It noted that Nigerians were going through a difficult period and the leadership at all levels must appreciate that the harsh economy is taking its toll on a large number of Nigerians.
Many, out of frustration, especially the youths, engage in doing untoward things just to make ends meet.
The Trade Union Congress stressed that it is time for the leadership at all levels to rethink and design a workable roadmap capable of transforming the economy of the country, noting that it is everyone’s desire to live in a peaceful and development-conscious nation.
The Union stated that the country’s political leadership must appreciate that Nigeria is in dire strait and the country can only overcome if its leaders lead a selfless and exemplary life.
It, therefore, encouraged everyone to remain self-disciplined and law-abiding, even as we strive to achieve the desired development we crave.
According to the Union, it is true that only God can help us overcome our challenges, but we must not forget that certainly, we all, individually and collectively, do have a role to play. This should include prayers, selfless services and avoiding being involved in any illegal activity or action.
The Union further expressed hope that this Sallah celebration would humble every Muslim in particular and Nigerians in general, especially in their service to God, and to humanity.
