Indigenes of Imo State resident in the United States have demanded an end to the ongoing wanton killings and destruction of property in Imo State.
The indigenes operating under the aegis of Njiko Orlu (USA) expressed concern over the unrestrained daily killing of their kinsmen and burning of property especially in Okporo in Orlu LGA of the state.
In a statement signed by Leo Okolienta, Convener, the group observed that Orlu was known for its serene and peaceful state and therefore should not be allowed to degenerate to a killing field.
They described as most reprehensible and abominable the gruesome beheading of innocent people and display of their heads at market square.
They therefore called on the state governor, Hope Uzodimma and the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abutu Yaro to bring the monstrous trend to a halt.
They also demanded that the perpetrators of these dastardly acts be fished out and punished.
According to them, the crime if unchecked would exacerbate unrest and anarchy in the state.
The statement reads part, “We are concerned indigenes of İmo State resident in different parts of America.
“That we are terribly embarrassed and disturbed by the increasing killings of our brothers and sisters and the burning down of houses that daily happen in our dear state especially in Okporo, Orlu LGA.
“We note that Orlu before now is known for its peaceful state and therefore should not be allowed to degenerate to a killing field.
“That the recent trend that involves gruesome beheading of innocent people in our community and secretly dumping the dismembered heads in a public space like the Market Square is most reprehensible, abominable and must not be tolerated in the state in this 21st century.
“The good people of Okporo in Orlu in recent days cannot go about their normal businesses in peace, nor sleep with their two eyes closed.
“Many have fled their ancestral homes for fear of being killed.
“We call on the İmo State government under the Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma and the Nigeria Police İmo State Command controlled by the Commissioner of Police Abutu Yaro to check this ugly and monstrous trend and bring it to a halt.
“We demand that the state government and the Police should fish out the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to book.
“The crime if unchecked is capable of inflaming unrest and bringing anarchy in the state.”
