Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has congratulated Professor Teddy Charles Adias on what he described as his well deserved appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke.
The former governor said in a statement that it is the first time a Bayelsan was taking over the administration of the only Federal university in the state and maintained that Professor Adias is a brilliant academic, a worthy Bayelsan and well deserving of the appointment.
He called for support from all quarters to enable him succeed and reposition the institution to bring to fruition, the educational aspirations of the people which informed the establishment of the university.
Dickson added that due to the importance he attached to education, his government approved a monthly subvention to all Federal Institutions in Bayelsa State and that the sum of N10 million monthly was approved for the Federal University Otuoke and Federal Polytechnic Ekeowe respectively, to support them.

He expressed happiness that his successor, Senator Douye Diri, in the spirit of continuity, has continued to make that sacrifice despite the dwindling state of the economy and lauded him for that.
He said: “Now that we have all these institutions in our state, I encourage our people to enrol massively and urge all those in the Federal institutions to work hard, become top academics and over time, distinguish themselves as academic ambassadors of the Ijaw nation.
“Education remains the only weapon of liberation and empowerment. This was why my administration also employed all first class graduates in the state, and sent them to all our tertiary institutions”.
The Bayelsa West lawmaker also congratulated the Vice Chancellor of the Niger Delta University (NDU), the state’s premier university, Professor Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo, on his award as African Educationist of the year 2020 by the African Leadership Magazine, United Kingdom.
“It is my hope that the NDU which has a solid governing council, led by Mr. Matthew Seiyefa, one of our best and a passionate believer in the principle of using education as a catalyst for development, will continue to live up to the founding aspirations of our people”.
