The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, has appealed to stakeholders of the party in Abia State to sheathe their swords, sit down and discuss their problems and solve them in a way that they will not lose elections in the state.
Ayu, who was in Abia State to commission road and hospital projects in Umuahia, the state capital, spoke against the backdrop of the crisis rocking the Abia State chapter of the party over the zoning arrangement for the 2023 governorship ticket, clarified that he has not come to endorse any particular candidate, as alleged in some quarters, noting that at the national level, they don’t endorse any candidate or do zoning for states.
He, however, remarked that the problem of the party at state level is of concern to the national body because they want Abia State to remain a Peoples Democratic Party – controlled state.
Ayu further disclosed that he has talked to the state governor and the party leaders in the state and charged them to always put heads together and solve their problems.
According to him, in a democracy, people must be allowed to express themselves and how they feel. He noted that Nigeria would fare better under a democratic dispensation than a military government and appealed to Nigeria not to do anything that will allow the military to come back to power.
On his part, the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, stated that the target of his administration was to ensure that the life expectancy of Abians exceeded the national average.
He expressed hope that the newly commissioned Specialist Hospital would meet the needs of children and parents. He further pledged government’s continued support and partnership with the health facility.
He said the location of the facility was strategic because of Central Police Station’s presence and that Abians in the diaspora would be providing technical support to the staff of the facility.
