Dr Tonye Clinton Jaja, a lawyer and public servant, is one of eight people nominated for the 2021 Gani Fawehimi Awards For Outstanding Integrity.
The award, which is co-sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation and HEDA, is intended to honour a Nigerian who has demonstrated exceptional integrity.
During his time as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Dr Jaja demonstrated exceptional integrity, according to the citation.
Meanwhile, Dr Tonye Clinton Jaja, a direct descendant of the late King Jaja of Opobo, has teamed up with Mr Ibifuro Asawo, the Special Assistant on ICT to the Governor of Rivers State, to produce an animation video of a book co-authored by Dr Jaja and Dr Keke Reginald Chikere. For students and others, the animation is intended to be both educational and entertaining.
The movie is part of the Hon. Mary Odili Digital Library of Nigerian Legal History, which will be released soon. It is housed at the Rivers State Museum, which is managed by the Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Recall that, The employment of Dr Tonye Jaja as a consultant and legal draftsperson has been accepted by UN Women Nigeria.
He was tasked with completing a final draft of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill (GEOB), which was introduced in the National Assembly by Senator ‘Biodun Olujimi.
Jaja was chosen because of his experience as a legal/legislative draftsperson, with a PhD in Legislative Drafting from the University of London.
At the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies in Abuja, he was recently appointed as the Ag. Head of Bills and Legislative Drafting Division.
Jaja has been the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Legislative Drafting and Law Reform, which is published online by HeinOnline in the United States, and the Canadian Institute of Legal Information, since January 2012. (CanLII).
