The Department of State Service (DSS) says bandits’ chief negotiator, Sheik Abubakar Gumi was invited because of his recent television interview where he alleged that soldiers were supplying arms and ammunitions to bandits terrorizing the nation.
Earlier on Friday, June 25, 2021, the Islamic cleric denied that he was arrested by members of the DSS.
In his attempt to shield the real reason why he was invited by the DSS, the respected cleric said he only went there for a routine check on his usual consultative visit to proffer solutions on how to halt the activities of the bandits in the Northeast.

But the DSS confirmed that he was actually invited for his derogatory comments in his television interview concerning his alleged accusation of the Nigerian Army being responsible for supplying arms and ammunitions to bandits terrorizing parts of the country.
The army has also sent a strong warning to the Islamic cleric to watch his utterances, because subsequently if such allegations are made, he will have to prove it in court.
Although the Army said no doubt, there are bad eggs amongst them, but such statements on national television should be totally avoided especially where there is no proof of the accusation.
This can be regarded as a malicious accusation because for sure it will bring down the reputation of the military, a reputation that the military has built over the years.
This can also deteriorate the trust Nigerians have for the military, and for those in the helm of affairs of the Nigerian Army
The DSS also cautioned Gumi concerning the derogatory statement he made by justifying the dreadful and evil activities of the bandits.
Gumi attempted to justify what the bandits are doing when he said they are kidnapping children and innocent victims in exchange for money, while the IPOB are ruthless cold-blooded murderers.
This is causing a serious hue and cry in the East that are now accusing the Islamic cleric of being one of the sponsors of banditry in the country.
