The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi has attributed the cause of problems in Nigeria to the elites and not the poor masses.
He said the elites included some journalists who write malicious content with aim of blackmailing their targets.
He disclosed this in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state during the 2022 Press Freedom Day Celebration with a theme ‘’Journalism Under Surveillance”,
The minister who was the special guest of honor said Nigeria is broke stressing that the reason elites are agitating for restructuring is because there was nothing to share.
According to him, “what worries me is the survival of Nigeria. I am worried to the extent that I begin to wonder if Nigerians know what the problem is. The problem of Nigeria is the poor man but the elites which include journalists”.
He also blamed some journalists for heating the polity with false information boasting that he has being in government for past 23 years in succession without scandal or blackmail from any journalist.
“There are good and bad journalists, some bad ones blackmail people to the extent that their victims have to pay. I have no scandal”, Amaechi declared.
Amaechi said it was high time people started holding politicians and public office holders accountable so that the country will move forward.
On the reason why he didn’t support Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, his kinsman but President Muhammadu Buhari, he said he did it for the survival of Nigeria.
He accused Jonathan administration of wasting about 68 billion dollars that the administration of General Olusegun Obasanjo left behind.
The APC presidential aspirant claimed that the Buhari Administration inherited a paltry 2.5 billion dollars from the Jonathan administration.
The former governor declared that this is the time Nigerians should vote for the right people and journalists have a responsibility to present all the candidates before the electorates to make a right choice.
