Erstwhile Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Paul Emeziem has been accused of collecting bribe to sack a former Majority Leader of the House, Uche Ogbuagu.
Ogbuagu made the allegation in a radio programme aired in some stations in the state including My101.1FM, his own radio station.
The former majority leader and member representing Ikeduru State Constituency also accused an unnamed rich man from his constituency of providing the bribe money.
He insisted he was relieved of his position for no just cause, a development, he said, had severally been attested to, by the former Chairman, House Committee on Information, Johnson Duru.
Ogbuagu recalled that he had headed to the House without having any inkling that he was about to be ousted on the fateful Thursday, March 4, 2021.
According to him, it was the rudest shock of his life when Emeziem who was then speaker announced his removal.
He further accused Emeziem of sharing his four months salary among members of the House who worked in cahoots with him.
Ogbuagu said; “The day I was removed as the Majority leader, I was on my way to the Assembly without any knowledge of what was about to happen. It was the rudest shock of my life when the Speaker announced my removal.
“This was upon his arrival from Abuja with some selected colleagues on a frivolous trip. It was the only reason the Assembly sat that day. And I never committed any crime.
“Even the then House Committee Chairman on Information, Hon. Johnson Duru had said it several times that I didn’t commit any offence for my removal only that the House wanted a change.
“The same Paul Emeziem without any qualms of conscience went ahead to suspend me and shared my salary for four months among some members who cared to partake.
Ogbuagu said out of anger he prophesied that his removal marked the end of Emeziem’s speakership, a prophecy that was fulfilled seven months later.
Emeziem was on November 8, 2021 not only impeached but also suspended indefinitely from the House.
Hear Ogbuagu; “About my prophetic statement that Emeziem’s action was the end of his reign as the Speaker, it was something I have in common with God. Each time I decree a word out of annoyance, it must surely come to pass. Today, where is Paul Emeziem? He is currently serving an indefinite suspension. You see how life goes.”
When contacted, the former Speaker, Paul Emeziem declined to react to Ogbuagu’s allegation.
Speaking through his media aide, Collins Osuji, the ex-speaker said he was not ready to banter words with the former majority leader.
