An explosion has reportedly rocked a police station in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State after unknown gunmen bombed the station.
Nigerdeltaconnect gathered that the hoodlums reportedly attacked Ashaka police station on Sunday, June 6, burning down the building alongside a patrol vehicle.
Confirming the development, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, in a statement, blamed those he described as “some enemies of the community and that of the police,” for the attack.
DSP Bright, disclosed that armed men numbering about 20 stormed the Ashaka police station and with the aid of Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) they threw at the station razed the police station.
He said the criminals shot sporadically, before setting the police station that was built by the community and DESOPADEC, ablaze and also burnt down one patrol vehicle also bought for the police division by the community just to ensure that police presence is felt.
“It is pertinent to state that no life was lost and no arm was taken away. However, the police will not relent in ensuring that law and order is maintained in every community.
“Unprovoked attacks on the police will not deter the police from providing the needed security in all communities in Delta State. The hoodlums who perpetrated this dastardly act will certainly not go free, as serious efforts are on to arrest them and bring them to book”.
In another development, on Saturday, June 5, the police, acting on a tip off, deployed a joint tactical team of the command, who stormed the hideout of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers, and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel.
According to a statement by the police spokesman, the joint team killed six of the hoodlums, while others fled into the bush, with gun shot injuries.
One AK-47 rifle, one pump action gun, one AK-47 magazine with 25 live ammunition, were recovered from them.
