A 45 years old man has been arrested by the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service for allegedly extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public, using a fake identity card of the State Environmental Sanitation Authority.
The suspect, who gave his name as Sele Record, and hails from Southern Ijaw LGA in the state was arrested by the special squad of the vigilante service stationed at the Tombia roundabout axis of Yenagoa, the state capital.
The suspect and one of his accomplice who is now at large, specialized in robbing victims by fake pretence of working for the state environmental sanitation authority.
His dooms day came while he was trying to extort money from the Special Adviser II on Political Matters to Governor Douye Diri, Hon. Michael Ogbara.
Chairman of the State Vgilante Service, Hon. Doubiye Alagba, called on members of the public to be vigilant of such criminals and their modus of oparandi.
According to Doubiye, “We will intensify efforts to ensure that residents in the state are safe. More security strategies have been put in place to ensure that all forms of crime, criminality and social vices are nipped in the bud.
“His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, has assured us of more hands to be engaged in the outfit, more youths will be engaged, which in turn will boost capacity to secure lives and properties. We are doing everything we can to ensure that we minimise the crime, especially within the black spot areas.
The suspects have been handed over to Operation Dou Akpo, a special unit of the Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.
