
The Federal Character Commission set out modalities and strategies on how to engage State Governors to establish state character commissions across the 36 States of the Federation. The executive chairman of the commission, Dr. muheeba .F. Dankaka disclosed this at a three day National retreat organized for members of the commission held in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
As a body armed with two district mandate by the nation’s 1999 constitution and its own enabling act, the FCC boss stated, that the commission is out to ensure a strong, virile and indivisible nation based on fairness, equity and justice with a view to promoting national loyalty and fostering a sense of belonging among all Nigerians.
The chairman said, ” it is believed that social justice is indispensable for building an enduring nation and therefore, we must thrive at all times in ensuring these basic needs.”
He lauded the theme of the retreat ”building cooperation for equitable delivery of service ” as timely stating that FCC is poised to actualise its mandate of ensuring fair and equitable distribution of posts in the public services throughout the federation among the indigenes of the various states and the FCT as well as ensuring fair and equitable distribution of social services, economic amenities and infrastructural facilities among the federating units.
while urging commissioners to come up with workable documents / communique’ that would galvanize the commission towards achieving its goals at this critical time, the FCC boss, argued that the two mandates of the commission if fully implemented in all ramifications by governments at all levels devoid of sentiments would be an enduring legacy for a nation.
