The Federal Government is taking into consideration the request of the members of the Nigerian Transport Owners Association (NARTO) to adjust the pricing template of petrol.
This demand was earlier made by the association to the federal government on the price of petrol.
The Petroleum Equalization Fund, Executive Secretary, Mr. Ahmed Bobboi, stated that the review will not increase the pump price of the product but will soften the plight of transporters. He also reported that since the members of the association withheld their service over non-increment of their bridging to N9.11. The Federal Government summoned general meeting with stakeholders.
“We are looking for a way of coming up with even if it is a temporary measure to review the template without adding anything to cushion and provide succor for transporters’’.
The secretary also revealed that the Federal Government is considering the possibility of transporting petroleum products by rail across the country to its marketers.
“Plans for the transportation of gas to the different parts of the country is ongoing as the government await the implementation of the gas bridging (transportation) as put in place by the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) that is now in the National Assembly.”
He further explained that bridging of petrol by rail would help ensure that the petrol products are sold at the same price and also prevent the damaging of roads by heavy duty trucks.
