Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a Higher National Diploma student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Christopher Obilor for alleged armed robbery.
The police also arrested Obilor’s accomplice, Ebere Michael alas Dede of Agbaja Community in Ehime-Mbano LGA of Imo State.
The spokesman of the police in the state, Michael Abatam disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen.
Abatam further disclosed that the police recovered from the suspects a cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, a short axe, a saw blade and substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Others items also recovered from the suspects are one iPhone, a bank ATM card and a wrist watch.
Abatam said Obilor was arrested in his hideout in Nekede before his accomplice.
He also disclosed that Obilor confessed to be a member of Black Axe Confraternity and a robbery syndicate that terrorized Nekede axis.
Abatam said; “Following the mandate of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, to raid all major criminal enclaves in the state to neutralise all crimes and criminalities with the aim to sustain the improved security situation in the state.
“On 29/6/2021, based on credible information received, that one Christopher Obilor “M” is an armed robber, a cultist and also a Higher National Diploma (HND ) student of Bio-Chemistry in Federal Polytechnic Nekede, whose gang has been terrorising Nekede community.
“The Imo State command’s tactical teams stormed the hideout of the suspect at Nekede Polytechnic Road Owerri, Imo State where he was arrested. When his house was searched, a locally made cut to size double barrel gun, one short axe, a saw blade and substance suspected to be hard drug were recovered.
“On interrogation, he confessed to membership of the dreaded Black AXE confraternity and also a member of a robbery syndicate with operational base in Nekede .
“On 6/7/2021 at about 1330 hours, Christopher Obilor led the command’s tactical teams to the house of his accomplice who sold the gun to him at No.8 Naze road Umuoma in Owerri North LGA of Imo State where, Ebere Michael aka “Dede “, age 27 years ” M ” of Agbaje Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State was arrested.
“When his house was searched, the following items were recovered, one iPhone, Zenith Bank ATM Card and a wrist watch belonging to Christopher Obilor.
“The suspects who allegedly operated as IPOB/ESN cell in that axis confessed to be their hard drug logistician before the recent police crackdown.
“Investigation is ongoing and efforts are on top gear to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo Command, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, commended the members of the public for their volunteerism in security partnership with the police that continues to generate information that facilitates these successes.”
