Umar Gwandu, the spokesman of the attorney-general of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has confirmed that the Federal Government of Nigeria has received the sum of £4,214,017.66 (about N2.4billion) of the loot associated with the family members of a former Delta State governor James Ibori.
According to the statement, the amount has been credited into the designated Federal Government account as of May 10, 2021.
The former governor of Delta State, James Ibori are one of those that milked the resources of Nigeria and invest them abroad and deposit the majority of them on foreign bank accounts.
This has not only increased the corruption of our Nation, but it has drawn us backwards, knowing fully well that these funds if invested in our nation will reduce the unemployment rate, will increase the internally generated revenue of the country, it will lead to development.
It will also reduce insecurity, it will also help the nation to diversify its income generation not to be solely dependant on oil and gas, the nation will not have to be seeking for loans to cover up yearly budgets .
We will go on and on if the effects of these stolen funds are itemized. These stolen funds have helped these nations overseas to develop their nations to what we are admiring today. We take our families out for holidays abroad, and we are astonished by the things we see, not realizing that our countries resources played major roles in their development.
If our constitution can be amended for corrupt leaders milking our resources to face lethal consequences like what is happening in China I think this will help to reduce corruption, instead of our leaders to fluent stolen wealth on our faces with impunity
