A former governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has announced his formal withdrawal from the presidential race and opted to return to the Senate.
In a surprise twist, the distinguished Senator Kalu congratulated the Senate President, Ahmed Lawal, for joining the presidential race and further urged all his (Kalu’s) friends, supporters and allies in the All Progressives Congress, APC, to 4 was the line of justice by supporting the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawal, a North Easterner, for the presidential ticket of the party.
On the choice of Senator Lawal, he remarked that the North East is the only zone alongside South East that is yet to produce President of Nigeria, noting that he has always maintained an unambiguous stand that for justice, equity and fairness in the country, the next president, after President Muhammadu Buhari, should come from the South East or the North East.
According to him, in the absence of a south easterner being president of Nigeria in 2023, he will give his full support to a North Easterner because it would be the closest to the fairness, equity and justice that everyone is clamouring for and it also translates to the fact that justice is on the way to the South East.

He emphasized that he would only run for the presidency, if the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, zone their tickets to the South East.
He said since there is no zoning and the contest is open to all Nigerians, he has now officially withdrawn from the 2023 presidential race.
He further disclosed that he has picked his party’s ticket to run for the Abia North Senatorial zone, so that he can complete the good work he has started in his senatorial constituency.
