Former Real Madrid defender Pepe has revealed that he was sleeping on the same bed with his mother until he turned 18.
The three time European champion who was one of the most dreaded defenders in the world revealed this secret after turning 38 on February 26.
While remembering how his mum took good care of him as the only child during his early days in Brazil, the Portuguese star said he was already a matured man before leaving his comfort zone.
Pepe spent 10 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning 13 major titles and he was quoted by Daily Mail telling Portuguese outlet Tribuna Expresso during an interview that:
“Until I came to Portugal, at the age of 17, I slept with my mother, so imagine what it was.”
The current Porto player was then quizzed about his father’s thoughts, Pepe – who currently stands at 6ft 2in tall added:
“Hey man, I was already big and I slept with my parents, so I imagine my father would not like to have me there.
“This is interesting. The other day I was talking to my mother and she was telling me that I really liked to run my hand through her hair, take it, and I told her that maybe I already knew it would be a lot of time away from her.
“That I, a boy who slept with his mother until he was 18, could win three Champions [laughs]. Look, I never imagined it, it’s true.”
Legit.ng reported that, Pepe is one of the few players who challenged Jose Mourinho when he attempted humiliating the legendary goalkeeper, but the player insisted that everything has now been resolved.
“Everything is taken care of, solved. I have no problem with him. I admire him for the work he does, they are situations that happen.”
The 39 year old left Real for Besiktas in 2017 and after playing two seasons there, he went back to Portugal where he currently plays for FC Porto.
The defender also said he had interest from Premier League clubs two years ago but he decided to return home.
“I could have gone to England. I had clubs that offered me a lot of money, but the opportunity arose to return to Porto – and, at my age, it was either then, or never. I chose to go back to a club I like, where I was treated well, I spoke with Sergio Conceicao.”
Pepe is under contract with his present club until the summer of 2023.
