Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole has made moves to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bankole on Friday, March 12, 2021 met with the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, who doubles as caretaker committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress, alongside another APC chieftain, Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Bagudu in Buni’s residence in Abuja, reports the Nation.
Mai Mala Buni is also chairman of the Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
Although none of the three political leaders spoke to the press after the meeting, Director General, Press Affairs, Malam Mamman Mohammed hinted at a possible defection of the former speaker and former Ogun State governorship aspirant.
The APC through its official Twitter handle, released a statement signed by Malam Mamman, saying conversations held at the meeting centred around the movement of Bankole and his supporters to the APC.
The three leaders discussed on a wide range of political issues including the movement of the former Speaker and his supporters into the party.
It is evident that APC’s opportunities in Ogun State are growing and widening.
It will be recalled that Dimeji Bankole ran for governor in Ogun State under the auspices of the Action Democratic Party but lost to Prince Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress.
National Chairman of ADP, Engr. Yabagi Sani, while reacting to the recent shift by Bankole, said he is disappointed at the former speaker’s decision.
That’s a typical Nigerian politician for you. They don’t believe in building but sharing. I thought with his age and experience, he will show good example. His step is most unfortunate but we aren’t disappointed.
Earlier, former Governor of Ogun State and one time Director of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation in 2019, Gbenga Daniels, joined the APC recently, saying it was the yearning of his people.
