Gateway United, on Sunday, thrashed ten man Bayelsa United 2-0 in Match Day eighteen group B2 fixture in the Southern Conference of the Nigeria National League (NNL).
The match took place at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Gateway took the lead through Micheal Okolo who converted a spot kick deep into the first half after Hassan Oladimeji’s clearance mistakenly hit his hand.
Prior to Gateway’s penalty, Bayelsa United hitman, Okardi Inikurogha had put the ball past goalkeeper Araromi Ibukun of Gateway but the goal was disallowed for offside by the assistant referee.
Few minutes after his introduction, Ikechukwu Julius scored the second goal for Gateway on the 70th minute from a solo move that beat Bayelsa United goalkeeper John Shaibu who is still standing in for injured Issiaka Ogoubiye.
Earlier in the 60th minute the centre referee issued a second yellow card to Endurance Ebedibiri for an unruly reaction against one of the assistant referee.
Bayelsa United will in their next game host Holy Arrows of Oleh on Sunday at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa while Gateway United will travel to Nnewi to confront Goddosky Fc.
Disappointed by the outcome, technical adviser of Bayelsa United, Diepreye Teibowei condemned the conduct of the match officials, alleging that they helped Gateway United to victory.
He, however accepted the red card issued to Endurance Ebedibiri, saying it was deserved, having challenged the centre referee despite signaling offside against Gateway United.
Meanwhile Head Coach of Gateway United, Hakeem Busari described the visitors as a good side despite the loss, adding that his team would continue to push for the promotion ticket in group B2.
