The member representing the Isiala Ngwa North state constituency Ginger Onwusibe lost at the primaries after withdrawing from the contest for the Federal House of Representatives for Isiala Ngwa north and south.

His loss to Chief Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu the former EFCC Chief Fraud Investigator and Anti-Fraud Examiner came as a surprise to many; as the popular opinion is that Iheonunekwu is only a new comment and couldn’t have won the incumbent.
Iheonunekwu emerged as the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party-PDP for the Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency during the party’s primaries conducted on 22nd May 2022 in Isiala Ngwa North.
The primaries which took place at the Ahiaba-Okpuala Community Primary School field were contested by 7 (Seven) aspirants out of which 3 aspirants were present.
The aspirants present include Chief Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu, Hon Chuks Amaike and Mr Temple Tochi Anyatonwu while Hon Nze Obinna Ginger Onwusibe, Mr Uba Anyanwu, Mr Innocent Nwakwuo were absent. Mr Lucky Nwogu stepped down couple of days before the election day.
Announcing the results of the primaries that had 31 man delegates, the Chairman of the Electoral panel and PDP chief Returning Officer Mr Humphery Azubuike declared the former EFCC Anti Fraud Examiner Chief Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu who polled a total of 27 votes as the winner and duly elected as the House of Assembly Candidate of the PDP for the Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency in the 2023 general election. The incumbent Memeber currently representing Isiala-Ngwa North Constituency Hon Ginger Onwusibe came second having polled a total of 3 votes.

The exercise had in attendance other members of the PDP officials who conducted the election, Party leaders led by the PDP Chairman Isiala-Ngwa North, Elder Sam Esindu, the National Delegate Dr. SAM Ahiwe who arrived the venue late while the votes were been counted and as such could not vote as the national delagate. Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs- Hon. Christopher Enweremadu, the 30-man elected Ad-hoc delegates, 13 out of the 17 Ward Chairmen and their executives were also present; as well as INEC officials.
Why did Ginger avoid the primaries?
There wasn’t any official statement stating his withdrawal from the race. However, a video has been circulating online; an interview in he granted Living TV in the ngwa dialect, where he revealed that he had withdrawn from the contest for the Federal House of Representatives, to return to the Abia state House of Assembly. He insisted that if he is not given the party ticket, he will decamp to another party.
Ginger Onwusibe epitomizes legislative performance; from quality representation to infrastructural development and empowerment.
Ginger emerged House of Assembly Member Of The Year 2021 during the Abia Online Media AGM/Bloggers Week; the organization in a release stated that Ginger remained outstanding among his peers and mirrored the true characteristics of a true messenger who truly wears the shoes of his people.
Will Ginger Onwusibe leave PDP?
There are feelers that Onwa as he is fondly called has purchased the expression of interest form for the Federal House of Representatives Isiala Ngwa north and south for the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA. Ginger who just celebrated his 50th birthday has been a member of the PDP for over two decades and has occupied several positions in government; elected and appointed.

Protect the life and property of the people through strict adherence to the rule of law and fundamental human rights.
The group with members in all the wards in Isiala Ngwa North and the rest of Abia are awaiting his next line of action.
