A little above one week after the abduction of Chief Gbalipre Turner, father of the chairman of Ogbia Local Government Area, Ebinyo Turner, the kidnappers have demanded a whooping sum of N50 million as ransome for his release.
A close family source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the kidnappers established contact with the family and stated their terms before the man would be allowed to reunite with them.
The family source said they were able to establish that Chief Turner was still alive, as the victim was allowed to talk to his son, the Ogbia Local Government Council Chairman.
The source said the man complained bitterly to his son that he was not been treated well by his abductors, which was affecting his health.
“They are demanded N50 million naira to release him. We have been begging them and we hope they will come down so we can be able to afford the ransom and release him. Its a very difficult moment for us but we know this phase will pass.
“We were able to speak to him and was sure he was alive but he complained of the terrible way they are treating him”, the source said.
Gbalipre Turner, a retiree and non-executive member of the Bayelsa State Board of Internal Revenue was abducted at his Samphino Road residence in Yenagoa on Sunday September 5.
NIger Delta Connect reports that the kidnappers carried him from his Yenagoa apartment, beating various checkpoints before taking him to a water-front at Onuebum in Ogbia Local Government Area and afterwards to an unknown destination.
When contacted, Asinim Butswat, Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command says investigation is still ongoing.
