The Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade on Tuesday, visited the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Akali Baba at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking with newsmen after his close door meeting with the IGP, Ayade said, he visited the IGP specifically to share his thoughts and concerns about security in his state with the IGP.
According to him, “I’m here to share my thoughts and concerns about security with the IGP. I’m here specifically for the security of the state as it is my responsibility to guarantee security of live and property of people in Cross River State.
“The state is at investment stage. When I came into office as the governor of the state, I made a strong commitment that, I was going to decoupled the state from its dependent on the Federal allocation. Against that background, I invested heavily in Akali which is a commercial airline.”
Ayade also commended the IGP for the peace enjoyed in the state so far, adding that, “Cross River State remains calm despite the security heat that has engulfed the southern part of the country.”
Recall that the Special Adviser to Governor Ayade on Cocoa Development, Oscar Ofuka was on Tuesday July 6, 2021 kidnapped at the CRBC (Cross River Broadcasting Corporation) premises.
The Police Commissioner, CP Sikiru Kayode Akande while speaking in Calabar, said that his men have rescued one of the Governor Ayade’s aides from kidnappers.
Akande said, “We have succeeded in rescuing Mr Ofuka a few hours after he was allegedly kidnapped. You journalists have been blaming us. Now is the time to commend us. Our men are up and able.”
It could be recalled that the Cross River State Police Command expressed worry over the mass influx of strange characters and suspected criminal elements to the state.
The state Commissioner, Sikiru Kayode who raised the alarm said that intelligence sources have confirmed the development, noting that their mission is still unknown.
