Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has commended his successor at the Senate, Moses Cleopas for providing an opportunity for people of his senatorial zone to prosper.
The governor made the commendation at an event organized in Yenagoa by the lawmaker in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and MICROVIS Microfinance Bank.
Represented by Hon. Oforji Oboku, the member representing Yenagoa Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Diri said Senator Cleopas has shown that the mandate he enjoys is not taking for granted.
He further appauded the lawmaker for the initiative, saying it is in line with his administration’s prosperity agenda of eliminating poverty in the state.
“This is a good initiative and I commend you for it. This is what we want. We need to continue to use the opportunity God has given us to ensure that we bless our people and reduce the level of poverty in our state.
“It is only a man that loves his people that can do this. We’re aware of what our father and leader is also doing in Bayelsa West to empower people and we challenge others to show us what they are doing with the mandate given to them.
“This collaborative effort is a good one. It is in line with my government’s desire to reduce the sufferings of the people and make them prosper across the state and we will continue to do that God willing”.
Speaking at the event, Senator Moses Cleopas, said the grant was geared towards enabling the beneficiaries start up Small Scale Businesses and Contribute to the Development of Bayelsa State and Nigeria.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to change their lives by investing the funds into businesses that will bring profit for them and make them employers of labour in the near future.
Our correspondent reports that Cash Grant was presented to the beneficiaries across the three local government areas that make up the constituency.
