Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has denied any rift between himself and his immediate predecessor, Senator Seriake Dickson, stating that the relationship between them remains cordial and mutually respectful.
The denial is coming against the backdrop of rumours making the rounds in recent weeks, particularly in the social media space and online platforms, that there is some sort of cold war between the two People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains.
A statement by the media aide to the governor, claims that “following the rise in political activities, some individuals and groups have engaged in spinning all manner of narratives, based on their own assumptions”, adding that the intention of such narratives border on mischief to create a wedge between Governor Diri and Dickson.
Senator Diri said he has deliberately chosen to ignore such sponsored reports, pointing out that in line with his character temperament and governance ideals, he has directed his media aides to refrain from responding to the spiteful reports.
He said at every given opportunity, he has never failed to acknowledge and given due respect to his predecessors, particularly Dickson, stressing that attempts at sowing seeds of discord between Senator Dickson and himself is an exercise in futility. As a consequence, Senator Diri is urging Bayelsans to ignore such reports and regard them as the handiwork of mischief-makers who do not mean well for the state.
According to Diri, “For the benefit of doubt, I have no rift with my immediate past predecessor. Our relationship remains cordial and mutually respectful.
“I therefore urge our people to ignore such reports and regard them as the handiwork of mischief-makers that do not mean well for our state and its progress. My administration is on course, remains focused and cannot be distracted regardless of how much our detractors try.”
It will be recalled that Senator Dickson did not only endorse the emergence of Diri as the PDP candidate for the November 2019 Bayelsa State governorship election but worked tirelessly to ensure his victory at the poll.
