He added that other key projects which were commenced by the previous administration like the New Government House, ASUBEB Headquarters and the JAAC Building will all be completed.

Governor Ikpeazu also stated that major roads in Umuahia, the state capital will be given fresh asphalt coatings in the coming days and weeks to improve their longevity.

He commended the state PDP for standing strong and assured that there was no cause for alarm in the build up to the elections as the PDP remains the party of choice in Abia State. He advised those seeking elective positions under the party to pursue their aspirations decently and avoid acts that could tear the party apart.

The Governor used the platform to welcome back Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd), the immediate past National Organising Secretary of the PDP for doing the state proud at the national level.

Speaking earlier, the state Chairman of the PDP, Rt Hon Asiforo Okere, explained that the Elders’ Committee of the Party is created by Section 23 (1) of the PDP Constitution with about 90% of the membership provided statutorily.

According to him, the inauguration of the Committee is part of the steps taken by the current State Executive of the party to strengthen the party by bringing all organs of the party into full existence.

He stated that the main objective of the party in the state is to retain the seat of the governor by 2023, recover all lost seats and consolidate on the seats won by the party, adding that so far, the current state executive has recorded huge successes by the landslide victory in the last local government elections as well as the recovery of the Aba Federal Constituency seat.

Okere thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and other leaders in the state for their continued support to the party.

Others speakers at the event included the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, former Governor, Senator T. A. Orji, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chief Tony Ukasoanya, Chief Mrs Victoria Akanwa, Rt. Hon Prince C O Enweremadu and others. They all reaffirmed their commitment to the party in the state and beyond.
