The Member representing Bende Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, has revealed how an appointee of the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu is causing serious demoralizing set back for proposed housing Estate due to the state.
The legislature gave the latest revelation during a live radio interview program in Umuahia.
Hon Benjamin Kalu revealed that one of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s appointee who is the General Manager of Abia State Estate Development Authority (ABSEDA), has caused a major set back on projects he has attracted to the state.
In his words: ”One appointee of governor Okezie Ikpeazu who I have been calling for one week and has refused to pick his call is Mr. Okechukwu, he is the GM of ABSEDA. This is how am going to be calling those people who don’t want to support, but go about to hinder the progress of the state.
“Am going to tell Abians that you are holding back what belongs to them.”
Hon Kalu emphasized the need of calling out the name of the governor’s appointee who he said created bottlenecks for the projects he laboured to attract to the state.
”Am calling him (Mr Okechukwu) because am here working with the government, am here seeing opportunities. I spend money and time around here for my aides to bring out opportunities that will benefit my state, the state is not paying me for it, I see it as my own support to the state, and when I reach out to the agency that is suppose to be in charge of the particular issue, it takes one week or two for the GM of the Agency to answer my calls and relate with me, that is a dis-service to the state government and to Abia people”, Hon Kalu revealed.
Hon Kalu also revealed that Abia State has seventeen projects in housing that was approved for the state by federal government of Nigeria.
He also added that the first phase of the project has commenced which the state governor has approved a piece of land for the project.
“The governor has approved but the documentation needed by the controller in Abia State in charge of housing to do this job has not come from this GM, why is he holding it?” Hon Kalu asked.
He also hinted that if the project is executed in Abia State, a lot of people will benefit from it. Hon Kalu applauded the government of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the federal government for approving the project.
The Federal Lawmaker further hinted that any appointee of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who hinders the project he attracted to the state would be exposed henceforth.
”Very soon I will announce their phone numbers on this program so that everyone can call them and ask them why.
Kalu revealed that Ebonyi and Anambra states want to take over the project, because Abia State said they do not have land for the project. “How can there be no land? I have told the governor, if you don’t have land, I have land.
“But in this case, the governor has approved a piece of land for the development of this project that will accommodate a lot of Abians and the GM of ABSEDA is sitting on it. I want him (GM) to take a good step towards reconciling this. I owe him no apology because I called him for one week and he has refused to pick my call. Next, I will pick another person, I am going to be calling all of you who are representing all these agency, that is my own way of representing my state. If you are given a job, it is not for the interest of your party or just to please the governor but for the state. Why are you sitting on the documentation?” Hon Kalu questioned.
