The governor of Bayelsa State Douye Diri has been applauded for his love and commitment for the development of sports in the state.
This is as a result of the hosting of the maiden edition of the Gov. Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital.
The scrabble championship which is the first of its kind was titled 1st Gov. Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship, this competition began last Friday and ended in Yenagoa the State capital on Sunday.
The scrabble championship was held at the Golden Tulip Resort in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital which drew close to 300 persons who registered and was part of the five categories namely, Masters, Intermediate, Veterans, Opens, and the Students, who were drawn from secondary schools in the Bayelsa state.
The chairman of the Bayelsa State Scrabble Association Daniel Alabrah in his closing remark, said the acceptance of the governor to host the championship is a clear indication of his love for sports and determination to engage the youths in the state in sport activities.
The chairman of the association who is also an aide to the governor said Scrabble has the abilities to beam positive spotlights on the State of given the right motivation and support.
“In the last three days, we have had the privilege of showcasing our state through a remarkable championship to the delight of the participants and officials, he said.
The Bayelsa State Scrabble Association and the Nigerian Scrabble community are grateful for the privelege and the financial assistance that ensured the reality of the championship.
“There is no doubt in my mind that Scrabble has the abilities to bring positive spotlights to our state, if the right motivation and support is given. He stated.
