Unknown gunmen on Thursday, January 6 attacked the Police Headquarters in Dikenafai, Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, destroying some offices.

The gunmen who launched the attack at about 1:00am also set free some detainees at the station.
Our correspondent gathered that the attackers deployed locally made explosive devices during the onslaught.
It was learnt that the hoodlums destroyed the Administration block, the office of the Divisional Crime Officer, DCO, and the reception desk.

The Police Area Commander, the Divisional Police Officer, his predecessor and the Chairman of Ideato South LGA Interim Management Committee, Pastor Bede Ikeaka were among dignitaries who have visited the station to assess the level of damage done to the facility.
The police chiefs bluntly refused to speak on the attack rather referring the correspondent who visited the scene to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abattam.
It was further gathered that the five detainees who were freed by the unknown gunmen were re-arrested by the vigilante operatives close to the scene of the incident.
While Abattam promised to find out about the incident when our correspondent contacted him on telephone, the Chairman, IMC of Ideato South Local Government Area, Pastor Bede Ikeaka expressed his happiness that no human life was lost in the attack.
He pleaded with those responsible for the mayhem to let Imo State have a respite.
Ikeaka regretted the incident more so when all were happy that the yuletide festivities have largely been without any major unsavoury event.
The dawn raid at the Ideato South Local Government Area Police Headquarters is the first this year on police facilities in the state which came under heavy bombardment last year.
No fewer than 10 police stations were attacked last year with the most surprising attack being the one launched on Imo State Police Command headquarters in Owerri on April 5, 2021.
