Gunmen on Monday, August 16 ambushed and killed four workers of Lee Engineering Company in Assa Community in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
Our correspondent gathered that the oil workers were on their way to their oil plant in the Assa Community when the hoodlums shot them.
The gunmen inflicted serious gunshot wounds on other workers of the company.
A source told our correspondent that the oil plant in the community still under construction by the oil company.
Confirming the attack, National President of Congress of Ohaji Youths, Emmanuel Ugorji said some community leaders and security agents, including himself, have visited the scene of the incident.
He called on the government to beef up security in the area, saying that gunmen have been terrorising the area in recent times.
The youth leader said, “The first attack by this group was on an oil servicing company and second was the kidnapping of the Cluster Development Board Chairman, Godswill Uzomba, whose whereabouts remained unknown since three months now followed by burning of Zeroc Company equipment at Watersmith industrial park by a criminal gang.”
Also speaking, the President-General of the Assa Autonomous Community, Bartholomew Obodo, called on the federal government to come to the rescue of his people.
When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Micheal Abattam, promised to get the details and revert to our correspondent.
