Edo State, like several other Nigerian states, has been facing a rapid increase of insecurity such as killings, kidnapping and other crimes.
Recently, gunmen has reportedly killed three police officers in Benin City, Edo State. According to reports, the gunmen had also kidnapped one Andy Ehanire who is said to be the younger brother to the Minister of Health in Nigeria, Osagie Ehanire.
The abducted victim, Andy Ehanire, is the managing director of the Ogba Zoological Gardens, Benin City.
Moses Nkombe, the police spokesperson in Edo, has confirmed the incident to reporters on Monday, February 22, in Benin City, stating that the incident happened at the zoological garden, adding that the officers killed by the gunmen were deployed to provide security for fun seekers at the zoo as well as visitors of the nature park.
It was gathered that the attack by the gunmen disrupted activities at the zoo as many fun seekers scampered for safety, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.
“Our men are working on that (the incident), though we have not made any arrest,” the police spokesperson, Mr Nkombe said.
Nkombe further stated that the remains of the police officers have since been deposited at the morgue of the Benin Central Hospital.
