Unknown gunmen in the wee hours of Sunday, June 6, razed the two residential houses of Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba in his Ubulu-Ihejiofor in Oru West Local Government Area of the state.
A source told Nigerdeltaconnect correspondent that the gunmen bombarded the community with heavy sporadically shooting, sending panic down the spines of the villagers, some of who, abandoned their houses to sleep in the bush.
The source, who is a kinsman of the commissioner said; “It was a terrific night. Nobody slept last night. People are just coming out from the bushes. The shooting was so much and people had to take cover in the bushes.’
The state Commissioner for Information, Emelumba confirmed the attack in a telephone chat Sunday afternoon.
Emelumba said; “Yes, it is true my houses in the village were attacked early this morning. That’s what happened and how we saw it”.
The Information and Strategy Commissioner also said his gate man, who was in the house, managed to escape.
According to Punch newspaper, soldiers were being drafted to the rustic community to restore normalcy.
It will be recalled that the country home of the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma was similarly attacked on Saturday, April 24, shortly after the murder of the Commander of Eastern Security Network (ESN), the militant arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra same day by Nigerian troops.
