The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the shooting of the State Commissioner for Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition, Iyke Ume.
Ume, alongside the Special Adviser to the governor on Inter Party Affairs, Dominic Uzowuru, were attacked and shot at by the gunmen suspected to be armed robbers, along Owerri- Okigwe Road, very close to the Orji Divisional Police Headquarters.
Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen also shot no fewer than four motorists during the robbery attack.
The state police spokesman, Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident said that the victims were evacuated to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, by the police for urgent medical care.
The commissioner was said to be driving an unmarked security vehicle when the robbers overtook and blocked him before shooting him on the leg.
Uzowuru, who was driving with the commissioner at the time of the attack confirmed the shooting, saying they had earlier attended a service of songs and
the commissioner was driving him to his house in Orji when the attack occurred.
He said, “I was not shot. The Commissioner was shot. My phone and that of the commissioner, were snatched. We were coming from a service of songs from one of us, Austin Nnawuihe. He was dropping me when the robbers struck. I am fine to the glory of God”.
