The Bayelsa State Government has warned independent fuel marketers in the state not to increase the pump price of petrol as there has been no official price adjustment to that effect.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Oil and Gas, Hon. Frank Otele, said the action of most filling stations in the state, particularly in the capital, Yenagoa, was unjustifiable.
According to him, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has also debunked media reports that it has increased the price of petrol and therefore the haste in hike of the product was offensive.
Hon. Otele stated that their actions have caused panic in the state as most of the filling stations had unilaterally jacked up the price to between N197 and N210 naira per litre.
He therefore urged the leadership of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), to call its erring members to order as any non compliant filling stations would be sealed-off.
The special Adviser also called on members of the public and consumers to remain calm as relevant officials of the state government are liaising with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and other stakeholders including fuel marketers to immediately address and resolve the matter.
