Attack on security agencies increase as four police officers have been reportedly killed in separate attacks on police stations by unknown gunmen in Anambra, a state.
According to reports, the attack occurred on Wednesday in Nkologu community, Aguta Local Government of the state. It was gathered that two patrol teams were attacked in Mkpologwu and Omogho areas of the state, while two officers were killed in Nkpologu, two others were killed in Omogho.
Source say the gunmen drove into the stations in a black Mercedes Benz 4Matic SUV and opened fire on the policemen deployed to patrol the two locations and also set police vehicles ablaze.
The police spokesperson Haruna Mohammed has confirmed the incident, he noted that the commissioner of police in the state Monday Bala, had visited the scene of the killing and has ordered for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.
He added that the gunmen carted away with the rifles of two policemen who were killed in the attack.
Source say, a senior police officer in the local government, while speaking with newsmen said, “Honestly, it was a black Wednesday in Anambra. I don’t know what those boys want to gain from this act.
“We lost our gallant men today again, a few days after the Aba, Abia State incident. Do they want us to leave the force for them?
“This thing is getting out of hand; when our men respond now, some members of the public will start shouting on policemen.”
A community leader in Achina, a neighbouring town to Nkpologwu, who also pleaded anonymity, said he saw up to four dead bodies at the scene.
This is coming following the recent attack on Aba station, Abia state.
