Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has stated that he will ensure that his successor is capable of defending the interests of the state and its people.
Governor Wike stated this during a birthday party organised for him by his wife, Justice Eberechi Nyesom-Wike in his private residence at Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
This was disclosed by Wike’s media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, in a statement made available to our correspondent.
The governor stated that he had asked Rivers State elders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to begin the hunt for a successor who has the capacity and passion to protect the state’s interests.
“I have dedicated this my birthday to make sure that whoever succeeds me will be for the interest of the Rivers people,” Wike stated.
Wike thanked God for blessing him with a fruitful and adventurous life, recounting how he was tricked into attending his wife’s birthday celebration at his sports facility.
He thanked the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, as well as the wife of the governor of Oyo State, Mrs Tamunominni Makinde, and other dignitaries for attending.
The governor advised people to keep praying for God’s grace to abound on all sides for him and his family.
His wife thanked God for the governor’s unwavering affection.
Justice Nyesom-Wike, who showered praise on her husband, prayed to God to provide him both his heart’s wishes and a long and fruitful life.
Earlier, there was a novelty football match between team A and B of ex-Nigerian international footballers comprising of Austin Okocha, Taribo West, Kanu Nwankwo, Joseph Yobo, Daniel Amokachi, Augustine Eguavoen, Victor Ikpeba, Tijani Babangida and Samson Siasia among others.
