The Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Rivers State, has suspended Godwin Olai, a lecturer with the Department of Management, for three months for alleged malpractice.
The university authorities also referred the matter to the Staff Disciplinary Committee for further investigation after an audio recording allegedly indicted him of academic malpractice.
A statement by the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ndimele Ozo-Mekuri, revealed the recording captured the voices of some final year students under the supervision of Olai, who claimed the lecturer asked them to pay seventy thousand each for their project.
The statement noted that the students said Olai would personally write, type and bind the finished projects for the students without any input from them, with the exception of writing their Dedication page and Acknowledgements.
The document added that the university authorities were determined to keep their surroundings clean.
Meanwhile, the authority of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port, Harcourt, Rivers state has debunked the assertion by some students of the school on school fee increment by 50% for late payers.
Speaking with our correspondent, the school public relations officer Ngozi Okerelu said there is no 50 percent increment on school fees, but added that there is a little extra charge which she described as normal little token charge for students who pay late.
Some students of the school whose opinions were randomly sampled also spoke with our correspondent that the school management is not fair in their statement
Meanwhile a student of the school who pleaded for anonymity while speaking with our correspondent on a telephone chat insists that she is still unable to pay her fees due to the added 50 percent charge which the payment portal is prompting her to make.
