The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Staff Disciplinary Committee has suspended Godwin Olai of the Department of Management from duty for 12 months with effect from today without salary.
Olai was found guilty of demanding the sum of seventy thousand naira (70,000) from one of his undergraduate supervisees to help the student write, type and bind his project.
Recall that the management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education had placed Godwin Olai, a lecturer with the Department of Management, on three months suspension and his matter referred to the Staff Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.
The management of the University acted on an audio recording which alleged that some final year students of Godwin Olai’s department assigned to him for project supervision were asked by him to pay the sum of N70,000 each so that the lecturer would personally write, type and bind the finished projects for the students without any input from them, with the exception of writing their Dedication page and Acknowledgements.
The school management disclosed this in a statement.
The statement reads: “The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Staff Disciplinary Committee today suspends Godwin Olai of the Department of Management from duty for 12 months with effect from today without salary.
“After our due investigation and confession from some students, we discovered that Mr. Olai is guilty and has collected the sum of seventy thousand naira from some students for the purpose of writing their projects.
“The management therefore warned other management staff and students to desist from this act capable of destroying the image of the institution.
“The suspension comes after our full scale investigation from the students and the recording of their phone conversations.
“The suspension of Mr. Olai for 12 months is without salaries. We are determined to keep our surroundings clean. Let all be careful!”
