AC Milan striker, Zlatan Ibrahimović, will miss their Europa League round-of-16 clash with Manchester United, ESPN reports.
Ibrahimović was substituted as he picked up an abductor muscle injury during Milan’s 2-1 win over AS Roma on Sunday.
The forward was substituted in the 56th minute of the game at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening, leaving Milan thinking about the fitness of a man who is important to their success for both domestic and European silverware.
The former Sweden striker has scored 16 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions this season, with 14 of those goals in Serie A. He is very crucial to Milan as they sit four points behind rivals, Inter in the league standings.
Ibrahimović will be assessed in the next 10 days to determine the full extent of the injury.
The 10 days deadline will expire on March 11, the same day Milan play United.
The absence of the Swede comes as he is supposed to host the annual San Remo music festival, which starts from March 2-6.
His commitments were however not due to keep him out of the matches against Udinese (March 3) and Hellas Verona (March 7).
But his injury will keep him out of both matches.
Aside from still being one of Europe’s deadliest strikers and most exciting talents at the age of 39, Zlatan also has history with United having played for them between July 2016 and March 2018.
He was a part of the United team that won Europa League in 2017, but he missed the final win over Ajax because of injury and may now be unable to face his old team.
