The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has said that it conducted a peaceful and rancour-free ward and local government Congresses in the 105 wards and eight local government areas of the state.
Mr. Alabo Martins, the Caretaker Secretary of the party in the state, while confirming the conduct of the congresses, said it took place in line with the regulations of the APC and against the wishes of naysayers.
He also confirmed the participation of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.
Martins, disclosed that all relevant stakeholders of the party were in agreement for the consensus option which ensured that the exercise was peaceful.
He commended party members for the dedication and commitment, noting that such level of cooperation would be needed at the state congress.
Also, a chieftain of the party, Barr. Festus Daumiebi commended the conduct of the congresses and thanked the APC family and the stakeholders in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area for their peaceful disposition throughout the exercise.
Daumiebi, who was the candidate of the party for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the 2019 general elections also used the medium to congratulate all those elected to various LGA positions in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
He maintained that going by the singular act of conducting a united Congress in Southern Ijaw by the party, the days of parallel congresses were over and advised other local government areas to emulate the good example of Southern Ijaw.
Dr. Stephen Ogola, the Chairman of the APC Southern Ijaw Congress Committee on his part, thanked all stakeholders and party faithfulr42 in Southern Ijaw for their excellent display of love for the party leading to the peaceful conduct of the congresses.
Chief Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and leader of the party in the state was reportedly absent due to official commitment outside the country.
But Chief David Lyon, the APC caretaker Committee/Extra ordinary convention planning Committee Vice Chairman, South-South Zone was on ground to monitor the congresses.
In Brass, the Local Government Area of Chief Sylva, Mr. Baribote Solomon emerged as the newly elected chairman of APC in a peaceful election.
