The wife of the Inspector General of Police, Hajiya Hajara Usman-Alkali Baba has awarded four female Divisional Police Officers (DPO) in Rivers State who have distinguished themselves in area of crime fighting and professional policing.
Hajiya Hajara awarded the female DPOs during her five days working visit to the state.
Those awarded are: CSP Nneka Edith Ebede (Abali Park mile one Division), CSP Christiana Cyril (Nkporlu Division), CSP Grace Nwonwu (Ozuoba Division), and SP Hierieta Eboka (Woji Division).
CSP Nneka Ebede who spoke on behalf of other awardees expressed gratitude to the wife of the IGP, adding that though the award is a privilege but they have worked hard to deserve it.
Ebede stated that they would continue to put in their best to protect their jurisdiction and advocated for more space to be given to women as DPOs.
Earlier, the Wife of the Inspector General of Police, Hajiya Hajara Usman-Alkali Baba boasted the confidence of officer’s wives, saying that the recent attacks on police personnel across the nation leaving several of them killed has kept their families in total poverty.
She said the lives of police officers matters in the development of the nation.
The wife of the IGP who is also the National President of Police Officers Wives Association warned against playing politics with insecurity, which she said could affect the national development.
She assured the police officers wives of support of the administration of her husband and encouraged the officers especially the female officers not to be deterred by the challenges but continue to do their best.
In her address, the Wife of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Chimelum Eboka commended the wife of the IGP for her visit and requested that she should use her office to ensure more barracks to accommodate police officers wives especially those whose husband have become victims of attacks.
Our correspondent reports that the wife of Inspector General of Police of Nigeria empowered over twenty-two widows of slain police officers in the state.
The widows were empowered with items like sewing machines, grinding machines, food stuffs, cash gift etc.
