The Imo State House of Assembly has adduced immaturity, absenteeism, lack of understanding of legislative business and plot to impeach the speaker as the ‘un-parliamentary conducts’ which earned six of its members indefinite suspension.
The House, in a statement endorsed by its Chairman on Information, Johnson Duru, accused some of the suspended members of embarking on frequent travels without permission thereby absenting themselves from sittings.
Duru stated that one of them is so obsessed with becoming the speaker of the House to the extent that he attends anti-speaker’s meetings where he consistently blackmails the speaker with lies.
The House disclosed that it had to kick out its Chief Whip, Arthur Egwim for his inactivity and loss of touch with his duties.
The House had on Thursday suspended Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru); Anyadike Nwosu (Ezinihitte Mbaise); Kennedy Ibeh (Obowo); Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West), Onyemaechi Michael Njoku(Ihitte-Uboma) and Philip Ejiogu (Owerri North).
It sacked its Chief Whip, Arthur Egwim and replaced with member for Nkwerre State Constituency, Obinna Okwara.
The statement reads in part; “Hon Uche Ogbuagu: This House member representing Ikeduru State Constituency appears not to understand the difference between House of Assembly and House of comedy. He can best be described as an absentee member. He suddenly stopped attending House plenary or sittings without any justifiable reason which is a serious offence by the House Rules.
“He does not participate in the business of the House thereby denying his constituency and the state his services as a lawmaker. He is only interested in attending functions both within and outside the state where he does his MC comedy work than attending House sittings. All efforts to call him to order proved abortive as he is always stubborn and brash.
“Again, Hon Ogbuagu only comes to the House anytime he wants to make one financial demand or the other. He talks like a typical street tout and does not know anything about decorum. He is the major conspirator as he has been attending nocturnal meetings and concocting plans to remove the speaker.
“Hon Anyadike Nwosu: He represents Ezinihitte Mbaise state constituency. He hardly attends sittings and any time he comes, it is always to create or cause confusion. For instance, Hon Anyadike was among the honourable members that spoke and commended the governor for the autonomy but on the day the House passed a motion commending the Governor, Anyadike came out, just to score cheap political gain, granted interview and attacked the House leadership and the governor after he had spoken in support of it. Meanwhile, contrary to the insinuation that he was suspended because he is of PDP and the minority member, this is far from the truth after all, there are other PDP members in the house who do their job honorably unlike Anyadike Nwosu.
“The truth is that Hon Anyadike is always making frivolous travels out of the state and country without the knowledge or information of the House leadership as stipulated by the House rules. Even as we talk, he is outside the country without the knowledge of the Speaker or House leadership.
“Our intelligence also gathered that Hon Anyadike has been the person being used by the opposition and he has been holding secret meetings with some of the suspended members with the sole intention to remove the speaker and destabilize the House of Assembly. This is absurd and unacceptable.
“Hon Kennedy Ibeh: This Obowo state Constituency member is so obsessed with being the speaker. This is what occupies his mind from the 8th House to this 9th House more than giving his constituency effective representation. He is always attending anti-speaker’s meetings where he has consistently been blackmailing the Speaker with all manner of lies and falsehood in order to remove the Speaker and make him the Speaker. He is simply a black leg inside the House. He feels he is smart but he is only smart by half.
“Hon Dominic Ezerioha: He (mis)represents Oru West state Constituency. He is the chief attack dog of those behind the removal of the speaker. He talks in a manner unbecoming of an honorable member. He always castigates the governor and the speaker. He behaves like an untrained man lacking adequate home training. He does not comport himself as an honorable member but only after money, money, money. Hon Ezerioha needs to be tutored on how to be disciplined and how to respect constituted authorities. He attends secret meetings to destabilize the House of Assembly.
“Hon Philip Ejiogu: This is the member for Owerri North. His biggest problem is immaturity. Perhaps, he thinks House of Assembly is a student union government. Hon Ejiogu is always floating and does not know anything about House rules. He is always the first to attend secret meetings to contaminate the House and cause disaffection among the members. He makes inciting statements against the Speaker. Hon Philip believes that House of Assembly is where to play his dirty opposition politics. He does not also attend sittings regularly. He recently threatened to shut down the House of Assembly and even issued an ultimatum to the leadership. There was a security information that Philip, Ezerioha and Uche Ogbuagu planned to cause confusion on that 8th of July, snatch the mess and impeach the speaker on that day. That was why the leadership decided to act swiftly.
“Finally, Hon Michael Crown Njoku: This one representing Ihite Uboma state Constituency is best suited to do a computer business which he understands best than being a lawmaker. His representation is colourless and without content. He attends secret meetings against the House leadership. He is always the first to reveal their evil plans against the House and the government. Hon Crown Njoku is a spy against the House. He is the one releasing false information against the House to the public and the press. He is a black leg within”.
The House also revealed that it held an executive session where it was resolved to send the lawmakers on suspension adding that while the session was on, the affected members were busy mobilizing to secure mandatory signatures to impeach its leadership.
