The Imo State House of Assembly has summoned heads of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in the state to its executive session over the arbitrary hike in pump price of Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol.
The House issued the summon on Tuesday, March 16 when it adopted a motion which expressed outrage at the different prices of petrol which marketers are selling in the state without any agency calling them to order.
The Speaker, Kennedy Ibeh who issued the summon also set up an adhoc committee to look into the problem and proffer solutions.
He also directed the adhoc committee to submit its report on March 23, 2022.
Paschal Okolie, member representing Orlu Constituency had moved a motion of urgent matter of public importance, calling for an end to the sufferings of Imo people occasioned by arbitrary hike in pump price of petrol.
Okolie, drew the attention of the House to the hike in price of petrol, from N165 per litre to between N210 and N250 per litre, and its attendant scarcity.
Okolie wondered why filling stations would sell at different prices without anybody or agency checking the disparity.
He therefore called for the setting up of an Adhoc Committee to look into the problem, and proffer solution.
The motion which was seconded by Michael Crown Njoku (Ihitte/Uboma) enjoyed overwhelming support and was adopted.
The Adhoc has Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu as Chairman, Paschal Okolie, Blyden Amajirionwu, Chiji Collins and Dominic Ezerioha as members.
