Operatives of the Imo State Police Command on Friday, April 1, 2022 repelled attack launched on the Police Station in Mbieri Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state by hoodlums.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Michael Abattam disclosed this in a statement dated April 1.
Abattam said the hoodlums suspected to be members of the separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and it militant wing Eastern Security Network, ESN swooped on the police station on Friday, April 1 but were challenged by police operatives attached to the station.
According to the police spokesman, the police officers were able to overwhelm the invaders who were compelled to retreat and fled the scene of the incident.

Abattam however admitted that the attackers caused some damages at the station before fleeing from the scene.
He disclosed that the miscreants destroyed a vehicle and windows of the station
The statement reads; “Today 1/4/2022 at about 0400 hours hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra/ Eastern Security Network, it militia wing attempted attack on Mbieri Police Station but were repelled following a very stiff resistance from the police operatives attached to the division.
“The hoodlums who threw Improvised Explosive Devices into the station and shot sporadically were overwhelmed by the superior fire power of the combat ready police operatives, forcing them to retreat in panic, escaping in their vehicle.
“For the prompt response of the gallant police operatives, only minimal damage was done to a parked unserviceable vehicle and some windows due to the effect of the explosive, no life was lost or injury sustained by the operatives and no arms/ammunition was charted away.
“Meanwhile, investigation is on going and efforts are on to arrest fleeing hoodlums”.
Recall that hoodlums bombed the Divisional Police Headquarters in Otoko, Obowo Local Government Area on Monday, March 28.
Other police stations that have come under similar attack included the ones in Umuguma, Owerri West Local Government Area and Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area.
