Scores of indigenes of Itu Community in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State have staged a protest rally at the council headquarters against their traditional ruler, Benjamin Iheanyichi Adindu.
The protesters comprising youths and women accused Adindu of inducing government officials in order to get certificate of recognition and staff of office on the eve of the departure of former governor, Rochas Okorocha in 2019.
The villagers disowned Adindu as their monarch, maintaining that he allowed himself to be used by Eze Leo Nwokocha, Chairman of Ezinihitte Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers to ruin their community, Itu.
They however expressed their unalloyed support to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, urging him not to be deceived by Adindu.
In his speech, Chief Emma Anosike, the Chairman of Itu Community Council of Chiefs described Benjamin Iheanyichi Adindu as an impostor who is hell bent at throwing the community into an unending crisis.
He insisted that on no account will the people accept Adindu as Itu traditional ruler.
He explained that the community had elected Alex Eberendu as their new monarch after the demise of late Eze Chimaobi Nwaimo who died after succeeding late Eze Dimgba.
He pointed out that about seven persons bought the kingship form that produced Late Eze Nwaimo, stressing that Adindu opted out and never contested the election.
Anosike wondered how Adindu travelled to Owerri to collect the said certificate of recognition and staff of office on the eve of Okorocha’s exit.
Hear Anosike; “Nobody in our community is in support of Adindu to be our Eze, he is on his own and we will continue to resist any attempt to impose him on us.
“Adindu is boasting of his Owerri connections that, with Hon. Mrs. Ruby Emele and one Collins Nkwocha, a director in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, nobody will challenge him.
“Adindu never appeared in any community gathering. He never contributed to any community development in his life.
“He is a blackmailer and petition writer instigating and indicting our people as sponsors of bandits and unknown gunmen simply to stop us from speaking out the truth. But we cannot succumb to such threats because our people have chosen a traditional ruler in person of Hon. Alex Eberendu and no other person.
Also speaking, Hon. Moses Nwogu, Vice President-General of Itu Development Union said that the people of Itu are against the action of Adindu and called on the Imo State Government to settle the crisis to avoid wanton destructions of lives and property.
In his reaction, Eze-elect, Alex Eberendu who narrated how the issue of the ezeship was constitutional granted to their village, Umuagu in Obiletiti section of Itu Community and how he emerged as the Eze-elect and was presented to the Council.
He said Adindu is working to deceive the public and accused some traditional rulers from the area of instigating crisis in Itu Community.
When contacted on telephone, Adindu said that he has no business with journalists, maintaining that he was busy attending a meeting in Owerri.
