The Imo State government has ordered the stoppage of indiscriminate development of land at the Shell Camp area of Owerri, the state capital.
The order is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Imo, SGI, Chief Cosmas Iwu and made available to newsmen on Monday, November 29.
Government said it has approved the allocation of any part of the land in the Shell Camp area and therefore directed a halt to any form of development in the said Shell Camp area.
The statement reads; “The attention of Imo State Government has been drawn to the indiscriminate development of land in the Shell Camp area of Owerri.
“Since the present administration has not approved the allocation of any part of the land in Shell Camp area, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State, has ordered the immediate suspension of development of any kind whatsoever in the aforesaid shell camp area.
“His Excellency has further directed the Owerri Capital Development Authority to take immediate steps to ensure that the Order is implemented.
“The public is advised to take notice and be guided accordingly”.
Recall that the administration of Senator Uzodimma had last week disclosed returning all land forcefully acquired by the government of ex-governor Rochas Okorocha to their rightful owners.
The restoration of the property acquired by either Okorocha, his family members and cronies have attracted commendation from a cross-section of Imolites for the government.
The people however plead with the government to perfect all the handover processes so there would be no encumberances to hamper their takeover.
A Community leader in the state, Chief Amanze Njoku has however warned those to whom the properties are restored to be wary of retaking possession because of litigations which were instituted on the property.
He listed Shell Camp Layout, Old Ministry of Works, Ugwu-Orji and Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, Orji as property encumbered by court cases.
